If your hearing has changed recently or you suspect you have hearing loss, make an appointment with us, as soon as possible. There’s a lot to hear in this world – laughing children, music, the sound of someone you love calling your name – and hearing aids may be able to help you hear them.
If you think you have any sort of hearing issues, the best thing to do is schedule a hearing test and evaluation with a qualified Hearing Aid Specialist or Audiologist. Although it requires an appointment, it is a pain free evaluation that helps us answer several questions like:
- Do I have hearing loss? We will find out one way or another!
- Do I have a build-up of ear wax? Sometimes that’s all it is!
VIf we find that I do have hearing loss, what are my options? We will inform you of all the options appropriate for your hearing loss, and together decide on the right treatment plan for you!
That is a question we get a lot.
To start with, the hearing aids of today are Super Mini-Computers that the sample sounds in your environment thousands of times per second, evaluating which sounds are speech sounds, noise sounds, loud sounds, soft sounds, and more. They amplify more of what you need, and less of what you don’t.
Next is the care and expertise of your hearing care professional. The evaluation, consultation, fitting, counseling, and follow-up care is all included to ensure you receive the best hearing you can for years to come!
Under most circumstances, the answer is yes. Your Cobb Hearing Aid Services hearing care professional can set up a demonstration right in the office during your first visit! After a hearing test and evaluation, many times a set of DEMO hearing aids can be programmed for your individual hearing loss and you can hear the benefits immediately! There is also a 30-day return policy in place if you purchase a hearing system and decide it is not right for you.
This can be a difficult or stressful problem. The individual may need firm but gentle encouragement. You should refrain from enabling the individual with the hearing loss (doing the listening for them).
An individual with a Sensorineural (nerve) loss can be successfully fit with hearing instruments. A comprehensive hearing analysis is needed to determine the best solution.
The simple answer is yes, they do work. They amplify sound and help some wearers in some situations. The problem is that no two individuals have the exact same hearing loss, and even people with very similar hearing losses can have VERY different hearing problems.
You see, without a proper evaluation and diagnosis, it is impossible to tell what frequencies or pitches each individual needs to correct their unique hearing loss.
A PSAP doesn’t know where you go, what you do, where you are having trouble hearing, what pitch deficiencies you have, how you perceive sound, what your word recognition capabilities are, if loud sounds bother you, if you have ringing (tinnitus) in your ears, which ear is better than the other, what the shape of your ear canals are, how the people around you speak (fast, soft, etc.), and many, many other factors that are involved in helping you hear better!
A qualified hearing care professional will help you find the answers to all these questions and more before recommending and fitting you with the instruments that are right for YOU!
After that, continued counseling and aftercare is essential for your ongoing hearing health care!
